I just received this email from Elizabeth Dawes. All students must contact Colin Russell for a one on one consultation. I will also post the tentative schedule so students can have some info before they go into these consultations. Professor Borman and Hickson are not on the schedule even tentatively so I am assuming that the dean is not considering keeping them, I think that any student going into these consultaions should stress that keeping them would help us meet our requirments and help keep the intregety of the department.

Hello all

Colin Russell, Registrar, has agreed to provide advising to all Philosophy majors and Honours students on an individual basis in order to assist students in planning their degree program. Philosophy students should contact him directly at or 786-9337 in order to set up an appointment. He will sign all required forms for majors and Honours students in Philosophy.

The Philosophy courses to be offered in 2010-11 have been carefully selected in order to meet the needs of the greatest number of students. As was the case in 2009-10, there will be two Honours seminars available in addition to directed readings and the Honours thesis. Also, we were able to arrange for PHIL-2200/6 (Social and Political Philosophy) to be offered by professor Boucher through the Politics department.

Students in the three year BA should expect to be able to meet all degree requirements in a three year period, assuming that an appropriate selection of courses has been made. However, as is the case in all small programs, students may find that their preferred courses are not available.

While it may not be possible for Honours students to complete all of their Honours credits in a single year, this is typically the case in small programs. For example, in French Studies which has six full-time members, students usually complete their Honours courses over a two year period beginning in their third year.

Colin Russell will work with you to explore all of the options and to select the courses that best meet your needs. If a gap affecting multiple students is identified, we will look at the possibility of adding a course to the 2010-11 offerings. We appreciate your patience during this time of transition.
